Found a used sofa, bed, wardrobe, or dining table on Dubizzle? Getting it from the seller’s building to yours is where problems often start.
A small service lift, narrow doorway, delivery permit, or furniture that needs dismantling can complicate pickup. These details rarely appear in a listing.
This guide covers what to check before paying, how pickup works, what affects the price, and common problems buyers face.
It’s collecting furniture from one address and delivering it to another, most often when the furniture has changed hands privately rather than through a store.
The usual sources are:
You don’t need a full house move for this. One sofa can be booked as its own job, separate from anything else
Our Working Process
Get the exact type, dimensions, current condition, and a few photos from the seller before you commit to anything.
You need the building name, floor, and unit, not “somewhere in JVC.” Also ask about lift access, stairs, and parking.
Sofas, wardrobes, beds, and dining tables sometimes need their legs removed or frames separated to fit through a doorway or stairwell. Confirm this before pickup day, not on it.
Upholstery, glass tops, and polished wood usually need wrapping or padding before loading. Worth agreeing in advance whether the item is in good condition and whether you want it to stay that way.
The last step is transport to the new address and unloading into the right room. If your building needs a lift booking or has restricted delivery hours, sort that out before the vehicle arrives, not after.
Check if any problem
The most common mistake is agreeing to buy before finding out what the pickup actually involves.
Get exact dimensions. “Large sofa” and “king-size wardrobe” aren’t measurements. Ask for width, height, and depth in centimetres.
Ask for real photos, not listing photos. Current shots showing stains, scratches, sagging, missing hardware, or previous repairs.
Ask about the building: which floor, is there a lift, is it a service lift big enough for the item, or is it stairs only.
Ask about parking and access. Some buildings restrict where vehicles can stop or require security sign off for deliveries. Worth checking before pickup day, especially in managed communities.
Same problem as Dubizzle: most sellers won’t deliver, so you’re arranging your own transport.
Before you agree to buy, get:
If it’s flat packed, ask whether all the hardware is included. Missing bolts and cam locks are a common surprise with second-hand flat-pack furniture.
Sofas, sectionals, beds, mattresses, wardrobes, dining tables and chairs, TV units, coffee and side tables, desks, office chairs, cabinets, bookshelves, dressers, and consoles.
Appliances follow different rules for weight and handling, so check those separately before booking.

Yes, but check access at both ends, not just your own home.
At the seller’s place: sofa dimensions, doorway width, hallway turns, lift, stairs, parking.
At yours: building entrance, lift, front door, hallway corners, and the final room the sofa needs to reach.
A sofa that clears the seller’s building but not yours is a wasted trip. If you’re unsure, measure both routes. See our guide on how to measure furniture for delivery in Dubai for the walkthrough.
Don’t find this out on pickup day. Check in advance whether:
Only dismantle parts that are actually designed to come apart. Forcing a fixed joint usually costs more to fix than the pickup itself.
This is the part most guides skip.
A lot of Dubai’s larger towers, particularly those under big master developers, require deliveries to be booked with building management in advance, sometimes a day or two ahead, with a specific delivery window and sometimes a refundable deposit for use of the service lift. If nobody checks this before pickup day, the furniture can end up sitting in a lobby.
Before booking, it’s worth a quick call to your building’s management office or security desk to ask:
There’s no flat rate, because the job changes a lot from one pickup to the next. What moves the price:
Distance. A same-area pickup takes less time than a cross-city one.
Size and weight. A coffee table and a sectional sofa aren’t the same job.
Number of items. One piece versus multiple.
Access. Stairs, long carry distances, or narrow corridors add time.
Lift availability. A working service lift changes the job significantly versus stairs.
Dismantling and reassembly. Needed for most wardrobes and some beds.
Protection required. Glass, upholstery, and polished finishes need more care.
Waiting time. If the seller isn’t ready when the crew arrives.
Send us the furniture type, dimensions, pickup and delivery addresses, and access details for both, and we’ll confirm a fixed price before the job is booked. For a fuller breakdown of what affects pricing, see our Furniture Delivery Cost Dubai guide.
A low asking price doesn’t guarantee a low total cost. The real number is furniture price plus pickup plus dismantling plus difficult access plus delivery.
A sofa that’s cheaper on paper but sits on the fourth floor of a walk-up with no lift can end up costing more overall once you factor in labour and time. Worth checking access before you pay the seller, not after.
Sometimes, but most private sellers expect the buyer to sort out the collection.
Before paying, confirm:

Check before the vehicle arrives:
Rules vary a lot between buildings. Confirm with management rather than assuming the last building’s process applies here too.
Villas have different access routes to check:
Gate and driveway access
Parking near the entrance
Internal doors and staircases
Distance from the furniture to the vehicle
A wardrobe that clears the front gate can still get stuck on an internal staircase. Check the whole route, not just the entrance.

For anything large, yes. Record width, height, depth, and, if it's already dismantled, the package dimensions and number of pieces. Compare that against both the pickup and delivery routes before you commit to buying. Full walkthrough here: How to Measure Furniture for Delivery in Dubai: Door, Lift and Stair Guide.

Second-hand IKEA furniture is one of the most common pickup requests we get, because so much of it moves through Dubizzle when people relocate.
Find out first whether it's assembled, in which case check dimensions and access same as any other piece, or flat-packed, in which case confirm the seller still has all the hardware and panels. Missing parts are common with older IKEA furniture.
If you're buying new from an IKEA store rather than a private seller, that's a different job. See our IKEA Furniture Pickup and Delivery Dubai page instead.
One message with all of this gets you a real quote instead of back-and-forth.

Yes, same process as Dubizzle. Most Marketplace sellers don't deliver.

Tell the team this before pickup day, not when the crew arrives. It changes the vehicle, crew size, and time needed.
